If they were close to 50% of the way thru their trip to Mars, they would be about to turn around and start deceleration for the rest of the trip. The main problem is they can't decelerate anymore actually.

That is assuming in this story with massive ships there are a few other massive ships to spare. You'd probably be tumbling, which sucks, and slightly askew from your course but close enough to have other ships come rescue you easily. So sure maybe a bit off course, which would still be a problem, but not a massive right turn. Ok so trying to wrap my head around this, there's an explosion or something on the ship and it sends them off course and cripples them, sure.īut in order to make the massive, nearly 90 degree turn that they show they've made, wouldn't they need an extended burn, not just a single explosion? If something turns in space, even from an explosion, you don't keep heading in the direction your "front" is, you head in the direction of your momentum. If I wanted a slasher movie I'll go watch a slasher movie. I always felt Sunshine was a "dangers of space" type of movie, with a dash of psychology that is always a factor in space travel, and that was enough to keep me engaged.

You can come up with a trillion scenarios that would be scarier than a fucking crazy serial killer. A mission to restart the sun without "star trek" technology sounds like an insanely hazardous mission by itself.

The space travel itself was more dangerous than a hundred serial killers ever could be. Where was the serial killer there? It wasn't needed. The sheer difficulty of any space mission is the danger. There already was an impending doom hanging over the film. The classic "he went crazy in space" and this ONE guy is going to kill everyone and everything (earth via failed mission). Then out of fucking nowhere you have a serial killer on a ship. It wasn't a "hard science" movie, but it felt like it wasn't a typical action film. I think because the movie was more sciency than normal I guess. Latest Discussions Texas Chainsaw Massacre Uncharted Death on the Nile Roland Emmerich Jamie Dornan Robert Pattinson (2017)

So, does anyone actually really love or hate it, and a special bonus question. Our Full Rules and Wiki Filter Posts by Link FlairĬlick 'spoiler' after posting something to give it a spoiler tag! Looking at the other releases on or before July 2013, there was Despicable Me 2, Red 2, and The Wolverine was coming up - all sequels. Ryan Renolds does his usual shtick, there's a solid performance from Jeff Bridges and supporting actors, and it's acceptable on every level, and yet it tanked spectacularly. It might not have delivered on the premise - "Jeff Fucking Bridges playing a dead cowboy in the present day", but it didn't exactly disappoint. It's everything you expect so although it's not worth raving about it, I didn't dislike it. It's not fantastic by any stretch it's highly derivative, taking gigantic chunks of its look, effects and ideas from MIB, and there's barely an original thought in there, but it's not awful. It has an average critic RT score of 14%, only one more than fecking Geostorm, and an audience rating of 38%, so a dud by any other name.Īnd yet, having finally got around to watch it, it's not shite. It made worldwide about $78 million, on a budget of $130, so there's no doubt that it was a monumental failure financially.
